This is how the system of white supremacy  operates. The media is used 2 create stereotypes like blk on blk crime. They need black men to fill jail cells for the Prison Indstrial complex

You know what? I’m tired of this.
I do not know what exactly they are waiting for. I mean our government comes up with “reasons” to invade other countries, such as Syria, like their government is allegedly violating human rights or something like that. but… I mean for other countries, they do not even have to go deep to bomb the fuck out of this place, they can just look at our media. And this has been happening to people of color since the media has existed.

I’ll never forget this 👇🏾

Did a research project on this in undergrad and the results are extremely alarming because it’s not just in imagery, it’s in language used even in the law making process and within our own communities in a completely different way than expected.

STOP MAKING ME FEEL OLD

Okay, but this is genuinely adorable. I love how the first kid, after entering the number, was like “what do I do now?”. I bet the kid was trying to figure out where the “call” button was, because if you’re only used to cell phones, it’s not really intuitive that the call will automatically go through once you finish entering the phone number

These days, the concept of a dial tone is rather obsolete for a cellphone-centric world, so it isn't a surprise these girls are young enough to be unfamiliar with it or the hookswitch. Only place you see traditional telephones are in office buildings and older homes that still use it.

When dial service was introduced, the Bell System had to put together instructional films to educate telephone users. So many people were used to being able to pick up and tell the operator who to call for them, so you had to suddenly learn where to find phone numbers. They didn't even have pushbuttons telephones yet, just rotary dial.

That’s so fun! How we circle back on ourselves! This is so wholesome

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

Spirit: Stallion of The Cimarron & the Indian Boarding Schools/Residential Schools allegory

Holy shit!

Was this intentional?

Considering the rest of the film’s heavy anti-colonization messaging, the main antagonist being heavily modeled on & inspired by General Custer, the other main (human) protagonist being a Native man (& the fort is where Spirit meets Little Creek), yes, most likely

YES. It was 100% intentional. I highly recommend reading up on the making of this film. There was an incredible amount of care that went into the development.

They had Lakota consultants for the project, especially regarding the use of the Lakota language in the film (which is used sparsely, but when used is accurate).

It’s par for the course now to consult people belonging to a culture for projects representing it these days (i.e. Moana, Frozen 2, etc.) but it certainly wasn’t when Spirit came out in 2002.

This film is allegorical to its core.

A Reminder of Horrors Past:

Queztalcoatlus northroppi, the largest thing to ever fly and at least 30% neck by mass.  Also one of the primary predators of saurpods, whose babies it would swallow whole like an awful prehistoric pelican.

Sometimes I like to imagine a Jurassic Park where the scientists decided to clone back/construct all the really fucked up shit form the age of the dinosaurs.
